| Many
of our people worship the Ganga, calling her mother. In Kanpur,
our people sprinkle flowers near temples on the soil, as the
Ganga moves along manufacturing plants and tanneries pumping
sludge and toxic liquid with lead, cadmium and chromium compounds
into the water. Lethal chemicals sink into the Ganga, turning
it black and killing all life within. At Varanasi, thousands
bring their relatives every week, burning them on the banks
and dumping their bodies. Corpses bloat with putrefaction,
hosting colonies of bacteria. The contaminated water, which
is used in ceremonies to purify their houses and to drink
on occasions, often contains cholera, dysentery, viral hepatitis
and gastroenteritis.
Indian
tradition and beliefs may make our people depend on the Ganga,
spirits or many gods and goddesses for our beloved ones. Yet,
the Word of God is the final authority on our life. We have
an incomparable hope in Jesus Christ. Yes, there is a heaven.
All who believe in Jesus Christ have the hope and promise
of eternal life in heaven.
Jesus
said,
Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also
in me. In my father’s house there are many rooms; if
it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to
prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for
you, I will come back and take you with me that you also may
be where I am. John 14:1-3
The Lord
is my shepherd; I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down
in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, and He
restores my soul. He guides me in oaths of righteousness for
His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with
me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare
a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint
my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love
will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in
the House of the Lord forever. Psalm 23
